Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is heading to Russia to speak at an economic forum and meet President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric says Guterres will leave New York today evening and make opening remarks at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum on Thursday.
He will then meet the Russian officials and possibly other leaders attending the meeting.
Dujarric says he expects "a broad and wide-ranging discussion" between Guterres and Putin, calling Russia "a critical partner of the UN" on issues of peace and security especially Syria, on development and climate change.
