Under fire for delays, Omar reviews Jammu's 16 mega projects

Facing criticism for delay in completion of several projects, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah reviewed the progress of 16 mega projects in Jammu region and directed to expedite the work.
At a high-level meeting yesterday, in which several ministers and Chief Secretary were present, Omar asked for speeding up of the work.
The Chief Minister was briefed on the progress of upgradation of Jammu airport, development of artificial lake, cable car project Jammu, development of Sidhra golf course, Mubarak Mandi Heritage Complex, Suchetgarh Border tourism project, 200-bedded Maternity Hospital Jammu, 4-laning of Satwari-Kunjwani highway, Legislative Complex Jammu and several other projects in the city.
The opposition BJP and trade bodies have criticised the NC-Congress coalition government for delay in the completion of these projects and held several protests.
It was told in the meeting that financial aid is being sought from Japan Bank of International Commerce for mega water supply project in Jammu.
The water supply project, estimated to cost Rs 500 crores, envisaged lifting of water from the Chenab river to meet the water requirement of the projected population of Greater Jammu upto 2020 in its first phase.
The meeting was told that Rs 51 crores have been spent on Tawi Artificial Lake project so far and Rs 21 crores on Satwari-Kunjwani road project is almost complete.
Earlier, the Chief Minister visited Rugnath Bazar to see the progress of work on Rugnath Bazar beautification project.
