An undertrial prisoner, lodged in a sub-jail in Kendrapara, escaped from the prison, police said today.
The prisoner was facing trial for murder, the police said.
The undertrial prisoner scaled the wall of the jail yesterday night and escaped, a police officer said.
The state prison administration has started an investigation into the jailbreak incident and a case has been registered at the Sadar police station in this connection, the officer said.
Efforts are on to nab the fugitive at the earliest, said Superintendent of Police (SP) of Kendrapara Dayanidhi Gochayat.
