The clash took place yesterday and the injured under-trial was lodged in the jail recently, said superintendent-cum-jailor S S Tripathy.
"Though the exact reason of the clash is not known, we suspect previous enmity might be the reason behind the incident. The situation, however, became normal after intervention of the police.
"The situation is now under control in the jail and there is no further untoward incident reported," he said.
One section (12 personnel) of police force was deployed outside the jail to maintain peace, said inspector-in charge, Kodala police station, Kalpana Kunhari.
As against sanctioned eight guards, the jail has seven guards to look after the prisoners. Only two guards are engaged in each shift to guard the prisoners, officials said.
