The accused was arrested.
The woman, who works at the Jajpur collectorate, used to stay at a rented house at Kianalikul in Jajpur town.
Police said the accused proposed her on August 31 but misbehaved with her after she rejected him.
He was arrested after her family members lodged a complaint with the police. He secured bail on Tuesday.
He went to the woman's rented house today and attacked her with a sharp weapon, police said quoting the FIR.
The victim was initially admitted to Jajpur Town hospital in a critical condition and later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for better treatment, police said.
