The incident happened when Bajpai had arrived here to inaugurate the party office of BJP candidate from Saharanpur Nagar assembly seat.
"When the function was going on and the state BJP president was being welcomed, then former councillor Kawaljeet Singh along with his supporters climbed up the dais and showed black flag to him and even chanted slogan asking him to go back," party leaders and workers said.
The situation went out of control and it spill on the road due to which a long traffic jam was witnessed at the busy court road.
Police had to rush in for the rescue of Bajpai which reached the spot as soon as it received the information and escorted the state BJP president to his car, they said.
