"As per the request made by me in the Vidhan Sabha, the Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has clarified that the names of the newly created districts would be known by their more popular, original names of Amethi, Hapur, Shamli, Hathras and Sambhal," Tewari said.

The previous BSP government had named the districts as Chatrapati Shahuji Maharajnagar, Panchsheel Nagar, Prabudh Nagar, Mahamaya Nagar and Bhimnagar respectively.

"Orders in this regard would be issued soon," Tewari said while claiming that the present names were against the wishes of the local people and unknown to the state.

The old names were in keeping with the sentiments of the people and had historical significance, he said.
