Terming children as the future of society, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav today said his government was committed to provide them better education and nutritious food.
After laying the foundation stone of a kitchen of NGO Akshaya Patra for supplying mid-day meals to schools here, Akhilesh said, "By July next year, around one lakh students from class one to eight would start getting warm, fresh and nutritious food from the centralised kitchen."
He said, "Unless and until stomach of the students were full they would not be able to concentrate on studies therefore the government was committed in providing them nutritious food along with good education."
The Chief Minister further said that his government was working on taking the state on the path of development through welfare programmes and concrete development schemes.
Talking about the distribution of free laptops to students of government schools, Akhilesh said this would bring them on par with children of public schools.
Meanwhile, Chanchalapati Das, vice-president of Akshaya Patra, said that the land for the kitchen, to be constructed at a cost of Rs 15 crore, has been provided free of cost by the state government.
He said after Lucknow, similar kitchens would be set up at Saifai, Kanpur, Agra, Varanasi and Kannauj.
