65-year-old Yadav, a three-time MLA, suffered brain hemorrhage and was taken to Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon on Sunday where he breathed his last this afternoon, Samajwadi Party sources said.
Following the death of the minister, the UP Assembly, which was in session, was adjourned for the day. It will now meet on February 11.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mohammad Azam Khan informed the House about Yadav's death when a debate on motion of thanks on the Governor's Address to the joint session of the UP legislature was on.
Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav issued a statement condoling the death of Yadav and terming it as a personal loss.
"He was a popular leader especially of the eastern region. He had given a momentum to the socialist movement...His death is a personal loss," the SP chief said.
Yadav was also minister in the Mulayam Singh Yadav government.
