Uttar Pradesh police has taken to Twitter to reach out to people, hear their grievances and keep a tab on the action taken.
"With a view to have better connect with people and help them air their grievance and also to keep a tab on action taken by the police, DGP Javeed Ahmad has issued directives to all the police stations to open twitter accounts," a directive issued by the DGP said.
"The platform of social media has become an important and effective tool to reach out to people and connect to them. Thus, it's need of the hour to adopt technology and used the platform," Ahmed said.
In the circular issued to all district police chiefs, the DGP has asked them to open twitter accounts in the name of the concerned district police and configure it with respective CUG mobiles of SPs.
"The updates of twitter thus will directly be monitored by the SPs and they will be able to feel the pulse of people and keep a tab on activities of their juniors too", it said.
For uniformity, the district police have been asked to use design and header used by @Uppolice, which already has 40.3 K followers.
Directive has also been issued to set up social media cells in all the districts to monitor the platform and give its feedback.
Twitter handle of @Uppolice, DGP and IG Lucknow zone A Satish Ganesh are already popular on Twitter and people are not only posting their problems but also getting solution through the platform.
Also, the handle is used to timely update good works done by the force to people and also to media.
The state police will soon be organising a training session to familiarise the officials with social media and its benefits.
