Joseph Perez was firing a handgun during his birthday celebration at his home in Dallas after which his family members took the weapon away from him.
He, however, managed to find the gun and somehow shot himself in his head, The Dallas Morning News reported yesterday.
Perez was taken to nearby hospital in Dallas where he later died, according to the Dallas County medical examiner's office.
Police ruled Perez's death accidental after interviewing family members, adding that alcohol was a factor in the shootings.
