On her Facebook page, the woman from Colorado, posted a photo of her breastfeeding an orphaned four-day-old puppy and explaining her decision to do so.
"I just felt like he just had an hour left. That's how weak he was, he wasn't moving and I just did it," the woman told news station 'KRDO-TV'.
The puppy refused to drink from a bottle or take canine formula.
"He just wasn't taking it. I didn't know what else to do, I was desperate and I just couldn't bear sitting there watching it die," the woman said.
"I did the right thing. That dog is alive because I took that initiative," she said.
The puppy, now over a week old, is doing well.
Veterinarian Dr Amber Williams said she would not recommend breast feeding a puppy. She said nutritionally, human milk isn't the best for other animals.
