UT govt rolls out free bicycle scheme for school students

Chief Minister N Rangasamy today rolled out a Rs 10.25 crore free bicycle scheme for the benefit of government school students at a function here.
The scheme launched by the Department of Social Welfare is making available bicycles free of cost to a total of 31,718 students of Class IX and the beneficiaries include 16,414 girl students.
Welfare Minister P Rajavelu later told PTI that the scheme was part of the initiatives of the government to prevent school drop outs as students would hereafter find no difficulty to reach the institutions from their homes.
