VA Tech WABAG bags Rs 580-crore project in Bahrain

Water treatment player VA Tech Wabag along with its joint venture firm Belhasa Projects has bagged its first engineering, procurement and construction order in Bahrain worth Rs 580 crore.
"VA Tech Wabag Ltd along with Belhasa Projects, won an EPC order in the water and waste water treatment space in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The Sewage Treatment Plant order for Al Madina Al Shamaliya, the new town being developed in Bahrain, is for a value of over Rs 580 crore", VA Tech Wabag said in a BSE filing.
WABAG will design and build 40 MLD Al Madina Al Shamaliya Sewage Treatment Plant for the project, for the Ministry of Housing, Bahrain.
The project is funded by Abu Dhabi Fund for Economic Development, it added.
WABAG's Middle East and Africa, Managing Director, Erik Gothlin said: "Securing this high value order gives me immense pleasure since the JV has won this order competing against some of the renowned international players in the waterspace. This also reiterates WABAG's technical proficiency which is well accepted in Middle East market."
Al Madina Al Shamaliya is a new town on reclaimed land off the north coast of the Kingdom of Bahrain. With a total land area of 750 ha over 13 islands it would be developed for housing, recreational and business purposes which would provide 15,000 dwelling units, it said.
