BJP in a statement said Vardhan had played a "pioneering" role in making India polio-free.
"I am very happy that my dream of a polio-free India has become a reality. Though several experts had discounted the possibility of achieving this when I had first started an effort to run the 'pulse polio' campaign in Delhi, I had convinced Health Ministers of other states to scale it up to the national level".
"The dedication and commitment of thousands of professionals and volunteers have made it a reality," Harsh Vardhan said in a press statement.
