After cracking the sensational murder case of two women in Vasco last week within two days, the police today said they will file a chargesheet against the accused within 60 days.
"The case was cracked merely on scientific investigations. We have collected all the evidence, except for the viscera report which is sent for testing in a forensic laboratory at Hyderabad," said Inspector General of Police Sunil Garg.
He also expressed confidence that the accused will get convicted.
Police had arrested Pratima Naik (27) for allegedly murdering her mother-in-law Usha and sister-in-law Neha on the night of Sunday by drugging and strangulating them at their residence in Vasco, apparently to avenge the ill-treatment they meted out to her.
Initially, Naik tried to misled the police saying the duo were murdered by unidentified robbers. She also inflicted injuries on her body to give credence to her claims.
However, Naik confessed during interrogation that she plotted the killings by taking a cue from a television serial.
Garg said the murder was premeditated.
The accused had claimed that the murder happened in the wee hours but forensic investigations revealed that both the women were killed around 12.30 PM.
He said the suspicion against Naik thickened after the doctor concerned certified that there were no particles of chilli powder found in her eyes contrary to her claims that the 'robbers' had thrown it on her.
