In yet another indication that the Chandrababu Naidu government is keen on making Vijayawada the capital of truncated Andhra Pradesh, Additional Director General-rank officer A B Venkateswara Rao has been posted as the city Commissioner of Police.
Venkateswara Rao, an IPS officer of the 1989 batch, had previously served as Vijayawada Police Commissioner between 2002 and June 2004 when he was a Deputy Inspector General-rank officer.
The Vijayawada CP post has been earmarked for a DIG-rank officer in the united state but with indications that the city will eventually be made the capital city of the new state, the CP post is being upgraded, official sources said.
