Titled "Uri", the film will be produced by Ronnie Screwvala's production arm, RSVP, and will go on the floors next year.
Vicky will play a commander, who led the group of paratroopers in the surgical strikes, days after a Pakistan- based terror outfit attacked an Indian Army camp in Uri in Kashmir.
Rest of the cast is yet to be locked in the film directed by Aditya Dhar.
Talking about the film, the actor said, "I was really thrilled and kicked about it because this is one story that I feel that everyone needs to know. One of the fantastic army operations that the Indian army has conducted and with great efficiency.
Vicky added he is excited to be a part of this project, in which he portrays "one of the toughest parts that I have played till date, both physically and emotionally".
For this part, the "Raman Raghav 2.0" actor will undergo paramilitary training for a month to beef up before the shoot begins.
This is Vicky's second film with the banner after "Love Per Square Foot", which is set for a release in April next year.
The actor also plays an Army officer in Meghna Gulzar's "Raazi", opposite Alia Bhatt.
