Vigilance raids engineer, unearths assets worth crores

The Vigilance Investigation Bureau (VIB) raided the residence of an Executive Engineer (EE) of Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) and unearthed disproportionate assets (DA) worth over Rs 2.05 crore from him today.
Vigilance Additional Director General (ADG) Ravinder Kumar said the operation on the EE Lalan Prasad Singh was based on intelligence inputs and was started last night. The investigations are still going on and more illegal assets are expected to be recovered.
"The vigilance teams fanned out and searched his palatial residence near Patliputra railway station in the state
capital, another flat located at posh Boring Road in the city, and his native house at Hatiyawa village in Sheikhpura district," Kumar said.

Apart from the houses, the VIB sleuths seized several bank accounts, ATM cards, insurance policies, investments in shares, three vehicles, 200 grams of gold, 6 kg silver utensils and coins, as well as, other valuables.
Documents related to two plots of 1.5 acre each in Sheikhpura and Nalanda districts and owned by Singh's wife have also been seized.
"The income of the engineer from salary during his service tenure and other known sources of income has been around Rs 51 lakh, but our sleuths recovered assets worth Rs 2.56 crore belonging to him and his family members. Further investigations are going on," Kumar said.

An FIR under Section 13(1)(e) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 has been registered against the engineer.
