Vijender, Akhil among 42 probables for CWG and Asian Games

Olympic bronze medallist Vijender Singh and veteran Akhil Kumar made it to the 42-member core-group probables for the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and Asian Games in Incheon.
The selection trials were held at the NIS under the supervision of the Ad-Hoc committee in presence of the selectors Mehtab Singh, Deverajan, Mohammed Ali Qamar, Jitender Kumar and Rajender Prasad.
The Ad-Hoc Committee requested SAI to continue with the camp till Asian Games, 2014 with all 10 weight Categories so that the Core Group Probables can get best fight partners in variety.
The men's team is going to participate in the Chemistry Cup which will help the boxers to test their training, Ad-Hoc Committee also requested the AIBA to allow the Indian boxers for more training and competitions, and we are sure that world body will surely allow our boxers.
For 33-year-old Akhil, it will be a comeback of sorts as he is back in the reckoning after a gap of more than three years. He will face a four-pronged battle from the likes of Dheeraj, Vikas Malik, Rohit Tokas and Anil Kumar.
Vijender, who is awaiting his Bollywood debut will also be keen to make the cut when the selection committee decides on the final list.
