Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil today moved a breach of privilege notice against Revenue minister Eknath Khadse for 'misleading' the House on the number of farmers suicides.
Vikhe Patil said Khadse, while replying to a debate on drought in the Assembly on March 12, had claimed that the highest number of suicides in a year in Maharashtra took place in 2012.
"However, as per the figures given by the government, the highest number of suicides took place in 2015, when the BJP-led government was in power," the Congress leader said.
Khadse has deliberately mislead the House, despite having the official statistics at his disposal, he alleged.
The Congress-NCP government was in power in the state in 2012. Vikhe Patil has served as Agriculture minister in that government.
Speaker Haribhau Bagade said he will examine the matter and give a ruling.
