A son of a village headman was today shot dead by miscreants in trouble-torn Karbi Anglong district, police said.
The man, D C Rongpi, was fired upon by a few persons who claimed to have come in search of a dog from Karagaon village which is about 10 km from Dimapur in neighbouring Nagaland this evening, they said.
There was tension in the district following the recent violence and imposition of curfew following the killing of six persons, including two militants.
Four persons, including three women, were killed by Karbi Peoples Liberation Tigers militants and in retaliation two ultras were killed by Naga Rengma Hills Protection Force while several houses were also torched on December 27.
Security was also tightened in the district following the recovery of nine decomposed bodies in Dimapur.
There was suspicion among the people that they could be from the district.
