The accused, Vinoo J Khadale, a resident of Behadpada hamlet in Jawhar taluka of the district, had frequent fights with his wife Soni (40) as he suspected her fidelity, police inspector D T Thombre said.
The couple again had an argument over the issue yesterday following which Vinoo, in a fit of rage, beat up his wife brutally with an iron rod kept in the house, killing her on the spot, and fled from there, he said.
The body was later sent for postmortem and an offence registered against the accused under section 302 (murder) of the IPC, he said.
