Villagers tonsure head demanding water scheme

Expressing solidarity with the fasting villagers demanding immediate implementation of a water scheme, more than 100 people today tonsured their head in nearby Avanashi.
Meanwhile, three of the 14 persons on fast at Avanashi for the past 11 days were admitted to a private hospital as their condition deteriorated, police said.
Nearly 70 persons are on the indefinite fast at Avanashi and a few other places in Tirupur district demanding immediate implementation of Avanashi-Athikkadavu Ground Water Recharge Scheme.
Police said a total of 111 people tonsured their head as a mark of protest against the 'lack' of response from the government to the fast.

Representatives of the action committee spearheading the protest by the residents of villages which would benefit from the scheme said they would not withdraw the agitation unless the government issued an order with regard to its implementation.
