The driver and conductor of the truck fled after the accident. Angry people from nearby factories and colonies gathered at the spot and torched the vehicle.
A fire tendor of Ludhiana Municipal Corporation reached there but the mob also attacked it, police said, adding the vehicle was badly damaged.
Police used batons to disperse the protesters, who indulged in stone pelting. Five policemen were injured, police said.
The body was sent for post-mortem, police said.
