Wall on India's Nobel laureates set up at Metro station

DMRC in collaboration with the Swedish Embassy has set up a Nobel Memorial Wall at the Rajiv Chowk Metro Station here to spread awareness about Nobel laureates of India with special focus on Rabindranath Tagore.
An exhibition on the country's Nobel laureates and their work will be on display at the metro station from November 9 to 15, which will be celebrated as the Nobel Memorial Week.
As this year marks the centenary of Tagore receiving the Nobel Prize in Literature, the week has been dedicated to him.
"Special focus has been given to Tagore on the wall, with a bust of India's poet par excellence against the original text of his Nobel Prize Nomination, which has been procured by the Embassy from the Swedish Academy," an official said

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) Managing Director, Mangu Singh and the Ambassador of Sweden, H E Harald Sandberg unveiled the wall yesterday.
Similar walls were put up at various Metro stations as part of the Nobel Memorial Week in 2011 and 2012.

Speaking on the occasion, Singh said, "It is a matter of pride for us to host the Nobel Memorial Wall with the Embassy of Sweden to honour Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore.
"The contribution of his work has given India recognition all over the world. The Nobel wall is a unique way to honour him. It also gives an opportunity to our youth to know about Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore while they are on the move."

Sandberg also expressed his gratitude to DMRC for partnering with the Embassy in its initiative to commemorate the great minds that India has given to the world.
"The Embassy of Sweden is delighted to celebrate the Centenary of Rabindranath Tagore's Nobel Prize in Literature.
"Not only was he the first Indian but, importantly, also the first non-European to receive the Nobel Prize in literature and for this reason, he has a special place in the long history of relations between Sweden and India.
This is also why Sweden this year celebrates the centenary of his Nobel Prize," he said.
In addition, the Nobel Memorial Wall displays portraits of the Indian Nobel Laureates - CV Raman, Dr Hargobind Khorana, Mother Teresa, Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar, Amartya Sen and Venkatraman Ramakrishnan with details about their contribution to the society.
