A man carrying a reward of Rs 50,000 on his arrest and his aide were gunned down in a police encounter while the duo was trying to kidnap two villagers in Saharanpur district Sunday, police said.
Acting on a tip-off that Ompal and his associate Vicky were planning to kidnap two villagers, the police reached Ibrahim village, SSP (Saharanpur) Upendra Kumar Agarwal said.
An encounter took place between the police and the accused who were trying to escape after kidnapping the villagers, he said.
Ompal and Vicky were killed in the encounter, the officer said, adding two policemen were injured in the incident.
Two pistols and a bike were seized from the accused, Agarwal said.
Ompal and Vicky were involved in several criminal cases in Shamli and Saharanpur districts, police added.
