Warders shunted out from TN jail

Days after photos of some prisoners having a good time at the central jail here went viral, six warders and two chief head warders were transferred to other jails in Tamil Nadu.

While a chief head warder was transferred to a sub-jail in Nilgiris district, another was shifted to a sub-jail at Chengam in Tiruvannamalai district.

Six other grade-I warders were shifted to central prisons in Vellore, Coimbatore, Salem, and Tiruchirappalli.

Official sources said transfers were of immediate effect, adding, instructions have been sent to assign tasks that were of 'non-sensitive,' nature to the transferred warders.

The photos were retrieved from a mobilephone seized from a prisoner during a search at the Puzhal Central Jail in which six other handsets were seized on September 3.

According to officials, the images found in a mobile show prisoners taking 'selfies' with other inmates, sporting sunglasses and wearing branded shoes.
