Wards falling in unauthorised colony areas witnessed a good voter turnout in the Delhi municipal polls, results for which were announced today.
From Patparganj to Sangam Vihar, the residents in these areas came out to exercise their franchise in good number.
Regularisation of unauthorised colonies and providing better amenities had been one of the poll planks used by all political parties in the contest, in which the AAP, the BJP and the Congress were key players.
According to the Delhi State Election Commission, the winning candidate in Patparganj, polled 11,312 votes, while the one in Shakarpur got 13,353 votes.
Anand Vihar, where a big number of migrants from Bihar and Uttar Prdesh reside, also saw its winning candidate amassing 12,963 votes.
In South Delhi's Khanpur ward 11,585 were polled to pick the winning candidate while Sangam Vihar-C ward winner bagged 11,431 votes.
The BJP today won 181 out of 270 wards for which the elections were held on April 23. The saffron party added muscle to its decade-long domination of the corporations effortlessly bucking anti-incumbency by riding on the popularity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The BJP's corporation-wise tally is: SDMC - 70, NDMC - 64 and EDMC - 47 as against the AAP's tally of 16, 21 and 11 respectively. The Congress finished last with 12, 15 and 3 wards.
