Water bill, property tax payments a click away for Mumbaikars

Mumbaikars can now pay water bills and property tax from their mobile phones and also register their grievances on civic issues.
Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) today launched a mobile application which enables local residents to pay various bills from their cellphones.
"We are living in an era where technology plays a very important role. The civic administration, too, has to move ahead and keep pace with technology. Keeping this in mind we have launched this mobile application where bills can be paid at the click of a button," Municipal Commissioner Sitaram Kunte told reporters here.
The application, "MCGM 24X7", can be used to pay water bills, property tax and also for renewing various licences, he said, adding it is available for free download from Google Play store for Android phone users.

"The service will later be extended to other municipal services like renewal of permits for shops and establishments and renewal of factory permit," Kunte said.
"Along with the payment of bills, citizens can also lodge their grievances through the application, which will be addressed immediately."

Payments for various bills can be made through modes like net banking, credit and debit cards and Immediate Payment Service (IMPS).
For those paying bills through 'net banking' will have to pay Rs 5 as fee to the civic body for transaction amount up to Rs 500 and Rs 10 for above Rs 500, he said.

There will be different charges for payment through debit and credit cards.
MCGM has developed the application with the help of Pune-based Centre of Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) and National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL). For the payment of bills, the C-DAC platform will be integrated with NSDL payment gateway.
