With incessant and heavy rainfall in the catchment areas of reservoirs over the last two weeks, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) today decided to withdraw the 20 per cent water cut in the city, imposed in last August.
Additional municipal commissioner Sanjay Mukherjee made the announcement in the meeting of BMC's standing committee.
"As of now, we have over 33 per cent more water stock in our reservoirs compared to the last year, and moreover, the MeT Department has forecast good rains in coming days," he said.
Owing to the poor monsoon last season, the civic body had imposed a 20 per cent water cut across the city.
Earlier, deputy municipal commissioner Sudhir Naik had said that as of yesterday morning, the reservoirs which supply water to Mumbai have 7,52,445 million litres of water which is almost 55 per cent of the megapolis's yearly requirement of 14 lakh million litres.
The stock was "satisfactory but not enough", Naik had said.
