With heavy rains lashing its catchment areas, the water level in Bhakra and Pong reservoirs has risen by up to 13 feet in last two days.
However, the water in both dams was up to 49 feet lower than the corresponding period last year.
Pong dam today recorded water level of 1,343.66 feet, about 13 feet more than the level on August 6.
"Heavy rains have been recorded in the catchment areas of Pong reservoir which led to heavy inflow of water into the dam," an official of Bhakra Beas Management Board said today.
But today's water level in Pong, set up on Beas river, was lower by about 30 feet as compared to the level recorded in corresponding period last year, the official said.
Bhakra dam meanwhile today recorded water level of 1,608.84 feet, up by 5 feet compared to August 6.
However, it still lower by 49 feet in comparison to the level on August 8 last year.
Average inflow of water level in Bhakra and Pong has been recorded at 90,000 cusecs and 3.90 lakh cusecs respectively, the official said.
"As more rains are expected this month, the water level in both will rise further," he said.
Last month, the catchment areas of both Bhakra and Pong reservoirs did not witness heavy rains.
However, despite lower levels, the water requirement of three partnering states --Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan were being fully met.
Last year, Punjab was asked to remain alert in July in the wake of heavy inflow of water into two reservoirs.
Bhakra and Pong dams will be filled up to a level of 1,680 feet and 1,390 feet respectively by September.
Partnering states -- Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan meet their water requirement for different purposes including irrigation from these two dams.
