Water supply in various localities of Outer Delhi is likely to improve as the Delhi Jal Board has commissioned a 7.8 million litres capacity underground water reservoir in the area.
The commissioning of the reservoir in Qutubgarh will significantly improve water supply in the area which include a number of unauthorised colonies, a DJB official said.
The commissioning of reservoir is aimed at catering to the water needs of the 1.35 lakh residents of Qutubgarh, JatKhore, Punjab Khore, Katewada, Mungeshpur, Achandi, Harevali, Dariyapur, Nagal Thakran, BajitPur, Bawana and adjoining areas.
"Through this expansion of its water infrastructure, DJB has come a step closer to its commitment to provide potable water to the entire city," said the official.
Last year, DJB had undertaken an ambitious plan of streamlining the entire water distribution network in the city and as part of it various projects are being implemented.
Presently, DJB has a water supply network comprising of seven water treatment plants (WTPs), 105 primary underground reservoirs (UGR) and a large number of secondary/local UGRs connected through a web of more than 12,000 km long pipelines.
In addition to the supply from surface water sources, DJB uses groundwater through 4,400 tube-wells and 10 ranney wells to meet the daily water needs of Delhi residents.
