West Bengal Congress today accused Election Commission's Special Observer for the state Sudhir Kumar Rakesh of helping the ruling Trinamool Congress saying no pre-emptive measures were taken by him despite issue of malpractices in the polls being raised by the party.
"We have been speaking about malpractices since the third phase of polling, but no pre-emptive measures were taken. Directly or indirectly he helped the ruling party," Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, West Bengal Congress president, told reporters here.
"If he has the honesty, let him say that the election was not free and fair in the state. Let him cancel the poll," Chowdhury said while speaking about the just concluded Lok Sabha elections in the state.
The WBPCC chief said that his main priority was to retain and increase the number of seats in the state and also increase the party's vote percentage.
"I hope we will succeed in retaining seats and increase it even by one as well as increase the vote percentage," he said.
Meanwhile, in Howrah district, the Left Front took out a protest rally alleging rigging and terror during the polling.
