"As many as 55 handloom-producing agencies are registered under the 'India Handloom' brand in Telangana. The premium branding will enable weavers to use good quality raw material and produce high quality products and enhance their sales and earnings through bulk marketing of the products," Telangana State Handloom Weavers Cooperative Society (TSCO) VC and Managing Director Shailaja Rama Iyer told reporters.
"The Central Government is encouraging 'India Handloom' brand, which guarantees the quality of dye, yarn and loom processed through which the product has been brought. Weavers centres are encouraging various master & independent weavers and cooperative societies to come forward to register their products under the brand," Iyer said.
Right now mostly the Pochampalli (Ikkat products) societies have come forward and registered themselves (in Telangana), she said.
"We are hopeful that the Narayanpet, Siddipet, Gadwal, Karimnagar and Warangal clusters will come forward to register their products under the 'India Handloom' brand and we are in discussions in this regard."
Earlier, Iyer, in the presence of Preethi Meena, Director of Handlooms and Textiles (Telangana Government) inaugurated "India Handloom Brand" store here.
The "India Handloom" brand was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 7, 2015.
