The Mehaboob Memorial Orchestra, formed in memory of the late ghazal singer who also has quite a few popular 1950s Malayalam film songs to his credit, will be rendering a string of vintage scores this Saturday at the Aspinwall House, the main venue of the three-month contemporary art festival, at Fort Kochi.
Disciples and fans of Mehaboob (1926-81) will be the main presenters at the show, the Kochi Biennale Foundation (KBF) announced today.
"It will be our token of respect to the late musician," a KBF spokesperson said.
The show will give art buffs visiting Kochi to see the Biennale, a taste of the city's musical heritage, the spokesperson said.
Mehaboob, who was popular in Kochi music circles and fondly called 'Bhai' by his fans, also gained fame in cinema in 1950 after the release of Malayalam movie 'Chechi', where he sang an Abhay Dev song that was composed by Kalinga Rao.
