Wheat prices recovered by Rs 10 per quintal on the wholesale grains market today due to increased offtake by flour mills amid reports of lower output.
However, rice basmati remained weak on sluggish demand against sufficient supplies from producing regions.
Traders said apart from increased offtake by flour mills, reports of a likely fall in output this year also supported the upside in wheat prices but sluggish demand kept pressure on rice basmati prices.
Meanwhile, wheat output this year is likely to be below the government estimate of 95.60 million tonnes as untimely rain, hailstorm and wind have hit the crop in some states.
In the national capital, wheat dara (for mills) recovered by Rs 10 to Rs 1,630-1,635 per quintal. Atta chakki delivery followed suit and traded higher by Rs Rs 5 to Rs 1,635-1,640 per 90 kg.
Sooji also moved up to Rs 1,020-1,040 against last close of Rs 990-1020 per 50 kg on pick up in demand.
However, in the rice section, rice basmati Pusa-1121 variety traded lower at Rs 7650-9,400 against last close of Rs 7,700-9,500 per quintal.
