The actor said the veteran star was really impressed by the film and the performances.
"My dad loved the film so much that he saw it twice in trials. I have not seen my dad so impressed for the longest time with my work, he had liked my work in 'Akira' and 'Lootera' and now this film," Sonakshi told PTI.
"Infact when he was watching 'Ittefaq', he was telling me that as an actor he was intrigued by the film and that he was imagining himself playing the cop's role."
Talking about her wish to work with her father, Sonakshi said they will give their nod a to project which has enough scope of performance for both of them.
"There have been some offers but nothing interesting has come our way. We would like to do something completely different other than that (of doing a father-daughter) sort of a story."
Sonakshi, 30, said her character in "Ittefaq" has elements of mystery attached to it and that was the prime reason for her to say yes to the film.
Produced by Karan Johar, Shah Rukh Khan and BR Studios, "Ittefaq" is the remake of the 1969 film of the same name that featured Rajesh Khanna and Nanda in the lead roles.
"I was open to comparisons with the original. But the film is being changed completely, only the essence of murder mystery, two people and a cop was maintained. I looked at it as a new film, it is a murder mystery, which is rarely made in Bollywood, so it was all the more exciting," Sonakshi said.
"I would love to work with Shah Rukh because of the kind of a person he is. He is such a nice, humble person despite being a superstar, so well spoken and chivalrous and to have that kind of energy is great. I love his work," she said.
