'Mapping Detours' is a group exhibit of eleven artists from Kolkata, UK, Hungary and USA, ongoing at the Chitrakoot art gallery here, which pays ode to the age-old art of drawing.
Young artist Radhika Agarwala, who conceptualised it, told PTI that old drawings are being forgotten in favour of paintings, sculptures, new media and other forms of art.
"It is sad that drawing is becoming obsolete as an art form. We are so obsessed with paintings that we are forgetting drawings. Drawing is the most lucid form of identity and expression. Hence, perhaps, the best medium to bring our diverse influences together," Radhika who returned to Kolkata from London, says.
Her 'Sleepwalkers Collison' has painstaking erased, intricate lines in graphite crawl from all directions that remind us of a topographical mapping system in which swans, owls, and other creatures jostle together.
