Wild comments against Aamir shocking but not surprising: Reddy

Congress leader S Jaipal Reddy today came out in support of Aamir Khan on the issue of intolerance, insisting that the "wild" comments against the actor were in conformity with the "fanatical culture" of BJP and Sangh Parivar.
"Wild comments on Aamir Khan were shocking but not surprising. They are in conformity with the fanatical culture of BJP and Sangh Parivar.
"I admire Mrs Kiran Rao for expressing her honest disgust with the prevailing climate of intolerance in the country," Reddy said in a statement.
He said that it is instructive to recall that even before Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister, late U R Ananatha Murthy, the Jnanpith award winner from Karnataka, said that he would quit India in case Modi became Prime Minister.

"The worst fears of late Anantha Murthy have come true. The feelings of Mrs Kiran Rao are therefore legitimate and natural. Every liberal should laud Mrs Aamir Khan's courage of conviction," he added.
At the outset, he said Aamir didn't need to issue a clarification as he has carved a unique niche for himself by playing patriotic and constructive roles in films.
