In line with rivals TCS and Infosys, country's third largest software services firm Wipro today said it has set up a team of 200-250 professionals as part of its efforts to ramp up revenues from digital services.
The team, which is referred internally as "Unicorns", comprises of people working across multiple technologies and design.
"What we are doing is we are creating a group that we internally call as Unicorns. Unicorns are the people who can really work across multiple technologies and design and this will be a very very small group. This will be a group of about may be 200 to 250 people," Wipro CEO and Member of Board T K Kurien told reporters here.
While announcing its quarterly earnings, India's largest software services firm TCS had said it will train one lakh people this year as it expects its revenues from digital services like cloud and mobility to increase significantly. It currently gets about 12.5 per cent of its revenues from digital services.
Infosys, on the other hand, did not give any such numbers but remains bullish that clients are turning to digital services to transform their businesses.
Asked about the number of people Wipro will train, Kurien said: "The technology part of what we do is what we should be doing on a day to day basis... We require people who have got multiple technology skills, who can be used to service our customers in volume. That's how we are kind of building it up."
He further said: "I don't think we can re-train large numbers of people in this particular area... But as the people come out of the bench, may be about fifteen to twenty thousand people, we would clearly re-train them to handle multiple technologies.
