Former Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren today favoured setting up of agriculture-driven industries and warned the Narendra Modi government to withdraw the Land Acquisition ordinance, else Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) will launch an "economic blockade" in the state.
"The JMM lends moral support to Anna Hazare in his opposition against the ordinance and party president Shibu Soren has asked two of our MPs to support his agitation," Soren said at a press conference here.
If the Land Acquisition ordinance is not withdrawn, he said, a JMM delegation will meet President Pranab Mukherjee in the first week of April and thereafter the party will stage phase-wise agitation of economic blockade.
"JMM has pledged to fight for the people of the state. Now it is up to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to decide whether he will go along with industrialists and capitalists or withdraw the ordinance in support of the poor and farmers," Soren said.
To a query, the former chief minister favoured industrialisation, but laid stress on agro-industries as 70 per cent to 80 per cent of people in the country depend on agriculture.
