Woman commits suicide after harassment by in-laws

A 20-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide in the city after she was harassed by her in-laws for want of dowry, police said today.
According to the complaint filed by Mohammad Imran, he got his daughter married to one Salman, resident of Ismailpur in Faridabad about seven months back.
The complainant said that he spent more than Rs 3 lakh in the marriage ceremony, but the groom's family repeatedly harassed his daughter for want of dowry, police said.
The woman's father said that he paid an amount of Rs 50,000 once when the groom and his father came to his house. After getting the amount, they took the woman whom they had left back at her parent's house since she was not able to get more dowry.
On Sunday, the woman called her father and said that her father-in-law has said that she would not remain married his son now.
The father-in-law also said that if the woman wishes to die, she may do so.
Provoked by her in-laws, the woman allegedly hanged herself the same day, police said.
The woman's father got a call from Naveen Nagar Police Post last night informing him about his daughter's suicide.
Police Post Incharge Devendra Singh said that the post-mortem report has confirmed death by hanging.
A case was registered yesterday at Sarai Khwaja Police Station under section 498 A (Husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty), 306 (Abetment of suicide) and 34 ( Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of IPC.
