As the child fell ill and was taken to a hospital, Thangamani fainted there and the doctors attending to her ruled out any health problem to her.
Knowing that she had enacted a drama, Rajkumar picked up quarrel with her yesterday night, police said.
As she fell unconscious in the early hours of today, Rajkumar took her to the Government Hospital, but died before admission.
The child is recovering, police said.
