Smita Nandiwadekar (43), the deceased, was attached to the special branch (SB-2), said police.
Nandiwadekar killed herself at her house in Fort area, near the Police Commissioner's office.
"We are conducting probe to find out her reason for taking the extreme step," said DCP (detection) Dhananjay Kulkarni.
