According to villagers, Devika Devi, widow of Omi Chand, a resident of remote Jatheli village of Doda district, reached Prem Nagar and sat on a stone in the middle of Chenab river for seven hours.
She threatened to jump into the water if local and police rescuers came near her. After seven hours, she jumped into the river.
Residents alleged that the authorities did not make any effort to save the woman.
"Administration made no efforts to save the lady, there were many ways by which she could have been saved as she sat on the stone for almost seven hours before jumping in the water," a local resident said.
