Woman killed for silver anklets in MP

A 40-year-old woman was killed allegedly by unidentified persons, who slit her throat and chopped-off her feet for silver anklets, at an agriculture field in a village here while she had gone out to answer nature's call, police said today.
The incident occurred at Mahabal village under Kalipeeth police station limits last evening when the victim ventured out to relieve herself, in absence of a toilet at her house, they said.
The woman, identified as Gitabai Ruhela succumbed to her injuries on the spot, a police official said.
Some unidentified miscreants waylaid her and took her to a field where they slit her throat and later chopped-off her legs and decamped with silver anklets, weighing 500 grams, sub-divisional officer of police, D K Nayak said.

Sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Mamata Khede has said she will look into the matter that why toilets were not constructed in all households in the village.
According to villagers, deceased's husband, Gangadhar collapsed on seeing his wife lying in a pool of blood.

Villagers claim that there are 800 houses in Mahabal village, of them 110 do not have toilets.
Locals also said that they have complaint to the authority concerned that despite constructing the facility in their houses, they have not yet received the payment for it, as per the government scheme.
The SDM has said she will take action in the matter after conducting a probe into it.

Police have lodged a case in connection with the incident and further investigation was on.
