A young woman was allegedly assaulted and hanged by her husband and in-laws in a suspected case of dowry in Labhua village here, police said today.
The victim identified as Madhurani was yesterday hanged from the ceiling of her house after being beaten up by her husband Harpal Singh and three in-laws, they said.
Madhurani's family complained that she was beaten up as she had not brought 'any gifts' on her return from her brothers' place after Rakhsa Bandhan. She was hanged to show her death as suicide, they said.
The woman's family claimed since her marriage six years ago, she was often harassed for dowry, they said.
On the basis of their complaint, a case of dowry death has been registered against Harpal, his parents and one other, they said.
All the accused have fled the village, police said, adding that efforts were on to trace them.
