The woman has been rescued today, said Ghanshyam Sharma, Circle Officer of Vallabh Nagar.
Fourteen people have been arrested in connection with the incident, while a police constable and local patwari suspended for not reporting it to senior authorities, Superintendent of Police, Rajendra Prasad Goyal said.
The woman, a resident of Kasotia village in the tribal area, was reportedly in a live-in relationship with Lalu Ram, a resident of Khodi Pipli Tekan village.
"The woman's mother, brothers and others who went to rescue the duo were also caught and kept in a room. The family of Lalu Ram gave Rs 80,000 to the villagers to get him freed," Sharma said, adding, "The girl's family members and relatives, who were taken hostage, rescued yesterday."
"They were present in the village when the incident occurred but they neither stopped the villagers nor informed senior officials," he added.
