Harbir, a resident of Gauchi village, registered a complaint with police that some of the local children had found the body of the woman dumped inside the manhole yesterday, a police spokesperson said.
The children from coming from a sports event when they sighted the body and later informed police, the spokesperson said.
The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination and the report is awaited.
Police officials said prima facie it appeared that the woman was murdered and her body disposed of.
